does anyone have any recommendations for music that my lovely wife should play this weekend at her program's fundraising party? Specifically, feminist/non-sexist music that is good for dancing? Last year folks complained that the DJs played too much rock, and they wanted to hear more hip-hop, latin music, etc. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

11:58 am - toronto folks
first - did i lend my book 'dread of difference' (about gender and horror film) to anyone??? yeah, it's a long shot, but just in case i lent it out and forgot about it....i was looking for it the other day and it's not anywhere in the house. i hate when books go missing. especially when it's a great text book that i actually read for fun!

additionally:

if anyone knows of anyone looking for a part time job and wants to get a foot in the door with a non-profit, i've just heard about this position (not with my organization, but with another org in my building)

"I am looking for someone for one-two days per week on a contract basis. Sometimes I will be able to offer a contract for a period of weeks/months, and at other times I will need someone on an as needed basis.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:

* Fluent written and spoken English (able to write correspondence and conduct phone interviews, transcribe phone interviews, synthesize transcriptions and write related reports, able to write minutes/meeting notes),
* Excellent telephone manner,
* Advanced literacy in MSWord, Adobe Acrobat/PDF, MSPowerPoint, Outlook/Outlook express,
* MSWord: write general correspondence, mail merging, printing envelopes and labels,
* Adobe Acrobat/PDF: ability to convert documents to PDF and to insert/delete pages,
* Familiarity with MSExcel: develop tables, familiarity with basic formulas, able to develop graphs/charts with data.
* Strong organizational skills (to organize their time, tasks, files, schedules, etc),
* Able to coordinate meeting logistics (venue planning, catering, AV, participants attendance),
* Ability to multi-task,
* Team worker, but very comfortable working with limited supervision, strong sense of initiative,
* Able to conduct research using the internet, libraries, etc.

This position might be best to a recent college or university graduate who currently has a part-time job and is looking for a day or two more per week."

if you know anyone, have them send me a CV at ajack AT awid DOT org

so, as some of you may know, shannon is helping organize this year's toronto rape crisis centre bowlathon fundraiser. and we're bowling with our team, team super awesome!

anyway, if you'd like to donate, you can see me in person, or you can donate online. all online donations get a tax receipt, and all in person donations over $20 get a tax receipt.

to donate online: click here

and, since she doesn't update or have any friends on her LJ, here's shannon's online donation page: click here

How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know?

How many times have you felt 'guilty' asking a close LJ friend a question that should be 'obvious'?

Well, here's your chance. If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything.

Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before.
